When I was eleven, I fell in love with Claude Monet and Winslow Homer. I thought their paintings were stunningly beautiful, yet my youthful mind saw them as mere decoration. Then I grew up, adulthood happened, and I turned back to art and saw something I hadn't seen before. I saw light. It was warm and hopeful and purposeful. There was meaning in it. I wanted to embrace that and share it with others.
